A guy who gets it

Governor Chris Christie of New Jersey is the kind of guy who will save the country.

I'm not talking about a presidential election. He's said repeatedly that he won't run for that office next year, and he's too young and inexperienced to be ready for it anyway. But there are several good governors — including Bobby Jindal, Haley Barbour, Mitch Daniels — who are doing the work that we need in every state.

We need more like him in state capitals, and in congress, and in the White House.

Happy Reagan Centennial

One hundred years ago today, Ronald Reagan was born in Tampico, Illinois. He was one of a rare few (even among men who have been elected president of the United States) who dramatically altered the course of human history, and for the better.

What occurs in this video is sometimes referred to as "The Speech." If you haven't seen it, or just haven't seen it for awhile, it's worth a half hour of your time.

Shortly after it aired, a group of California businessmen embarked on a long and (eventually) successful mission to convince Mr. Reagan to run for governor. Once he did, Americans began electing him to office as enthusiastically as they could. Over the following 25 years, Ronald Reagan saved the world.

Cheers to Shannon Sharpe

It's a rare occasion when I feel compelled to pour the good whiskey. Shannon Sharpe's election to the Pro Football Hall of Fame qualifies. He re-defined the game, and he was one of the funniest players I've ever watched.
